Squee!!! Redbird film

Rather happy with this film. David picked it up for me from David Wilson chemist. It has nice photos on the control sheet for the CD so I was quite happy.

We got home and as I was short time, I was glad to have the CD so I could upload quickly to Flickr.

alas the cd was blank. Aaarrrghhhh

So i quickly scanned the negatives and set the upload as I flew out of the door. Here are the results.

Follow Up

So Vision Image Lab finally opened. I had used ip the redbird film, walked around the blog a few times and even had to beg the cafe to use the toilet without buying anything.
I talked to the man about the Ilford film and asked why it was such an issue to get processed. He didn't know, he looked at it and said it was an ordinary B&W film. As I had finished the Chrome slide film in the Lubitel, I dropped that off too. I want to see if the issues I am having getting colour from this film, it X-ray or processing. Now this time it is being processed in e-6. IF I get green again, then it is X-ray damage. IF it works out fine, then it is processing issues. Time will tell. This roll is from the same box as the other two and had been treated in the same way. Even using the same camera. The only change is the processing from c-41 to E-6. Fingers crossed.
He said it would be $24.95, a little more expensive than the Campbelltown place but I get more services here. It is just a shame that they are so random in hours and so far from public transport. I did find the Metro 20 goes past the end of the street......

On the way to work, as I had missed the early train (See normal blog) I walked up to David Wilson Chemist to drop off the Redbird. Why did I not drop it at the place in waterloo?? At $10-$14 per film, I would like to stick with $5 for 'ordinary' film. I had asked the guy at the specialist place as to whether it needed special treatment or if it would be a problem for a photo lab, and he said no, it was an ordinary C-41 process so they would (Should) have no problem. OK... I get to pick it up tomorrow. I hope...
The Ilford will be ready on Monday, well friday at 1600, but Monday will do.

In the meantime, a few from my Hipstamatic wander of Newtown and waterloo

in other News the long await Diana F arrived. Yes not a copy or a clone but an real honest to goodness Diana from the 1960s or so, Happy? Damned straight.
I cleaned her up, inserted a film and then sticky taped her together. Yes this camera is true to its age, she doesn't stay in one piece. I was forearmed as my Lubitel doesn't stay in one piece either. LOL

A new developer maybe

As David Wilson cannot or will not develop my B&W film, and i have doubts that they will do my redbird film, i am on the hunt for a new film place. Trouble is Campbelltown is still the best for value.
So I am trying vision( um forgotten the name) in Waterloo. They advertise B&W development for $15. Ok that is $10 more than Campbelltown, but as they will not touch the film, i have little choice. I have seen much more expensive.
Troublesome film
Well as they open at 0800 and I finish work a 0530, i have to hang around the 2.5 hrs... I was exhausted when i finished work, but seem ok ATM. I remembered that a Macdonalds was not far from the place i must go to. I haunted Newtown for an little while and finished the 3 frames on my Lubitel. I was hoping to finish my redbird film but alas it keeps going and going. I actually prefer the medium format at 12 frames. 36 exposures seem to go on forever and I like to change, and I think this is a digital habit. I don't remember being this impatient when i used a minolta.

I think a lot of my Newtown shots will be underexposed as i had misplaced the flash sync cable for the non hot shoe cameras. Grr of course I found it when i sat down at Maccas. Always the way. Shame as I wanted to shoot the anti-burka mural in Newtown that has been causing so many problems. the really stupid part of ts mural is the free speech graffiti around the corner.

I was going to put the Lomo brand red scale film in the Lubitel, but i would prefer normal colour. This camera is a joy to use. It really is. I just don't have enough medium format film. ::sigh:: maybe I should as I do not see that I will be using it on my holiday.

Hmm I bailed and therefore failed

My big plan was to take my spinner, Sprocket Rocket and Cmena 8M On a trip on the harbour to take films of the water and the city.
I also had the Canon film camera. First sign of trouble was the film camera disagreed with the trip and had a flat battery so I placed it in the car.
By the time my shift had ended the trip was off to I hightailed it home.

No photos were taken, a few in the signal box, but none other than that.

The other issue was I had a Black and White film made by Ilford SFX ISO 200 in for developing. It came back with a note. We do not process Black and white film. WTF? Since when? ARRGGHH

I read the box from the other roll of this film that I have and it states 740 (units whatever) which is an Infrared unit of measurement. Hmm Did I accidentally put an infrared film into my camera? On no.. that means it was not kept in the subdued light that it should have been....

Hmm Now I am floundering around trying to find a place that will process this film. Any ideas?

Pinhole experiments

The only mildly interesting thing I did today was some Pinhole experiments. I have not used the Pinhole cap on my film camera, as I wanted an idea of how long to expose the photo and whether it is possible to get anything in focus.

Well I got my answers.
Sunny, 1 sec
overcast, shade 2sec
inside 30sec

Can I get any sort of focus with is cap, um.. no not really. But thats ok. Very soft dreamy photos. I hope to try somewhere interesting one day. Tomorrow is no good, tomorrow is digital day. :)

Mini update

The only photography i have done over the weekend was shooting inside with the TIM135 and the colorsplash flash. I dunno if they will workout, and really it doesn't matter. :-) was just photos of the boys lounging in my lounge room.

Today, Monday, brought a pin hole cap for my canon, it will fit all my canons and i was so excited that i set up the camera on a tripod and set a 30 minute exposure.
Trouble is, i had forgotten the cf card. D'OH!!

Pin hole cap

I had run out of time and so did a shorter, 7 min exposure. Alas i did not have time to see what had arisen from that shoot.

When I get a better idea of exposure times, I will use it on my film canon.

Damn work for getting in the way of experimentation..

Out and about with toys

I went out with a friend and David for Dinner, and I wanted to use the TIM135 and the super sampler. Of course the super sampler is supposed to be used outside, so the photos taken in the restaurant will probablyNOT  work out but it was fun. Tim met TIM135 and played with him for a while but we failed to use up the roll. Bum.
eye Montage
This is the sort of phtoos we were trying to achieve.

David and I took the Granville train and I played with Смена and her B&W film. She was nearing the end of her roll. I finised that roll and Granville station and was going to re-wind the film, when it occured to me that she does not have a re-wind facility. This model uses a take of canister and it was only when I read my notes about taping the end of the film to the take up canister that I remembered. Grump. No newfilm until I could find a way to take the two canisters out and manually re-winding the film. Hmm

I loked around work and rememnered that my locker room has no windows. Perfect. SO I dismantled my camera in the middle of the locker room. I am grateful that Catherine did not need to come in or the film would have been toast. Daid has suggested that our bedroom would have been good too but there is too many places to lose bits and pieces.
Смена 8
As per usual with this camera, my desk was littlered with bits and pieces of camera innards

So Lets see what the B&W film brings....

Bummed

I had a morning at Cape Banks. I did many lovely HDR phtoos which can be seen on my flickr and I had taken my analogue bag,. As the scenery was so lovely, I took my fresh film from Lomography in Hongkong.  Mostly 200 and 400 film.  All colour. I wanted to capture the beauty around me in analogue. My trusty Lubitel 166B and Cmema and to get the 360 view, my Spinner 360.
I was very excited to drop off 4 Medium format films and the spinner film to my developer and even more excitedly went to pick them up today.

Spinner Roll 3 x-ray damage?

Here I was crestfallen. My lovely photos were monochomatic. All green. Now I have used these cameras before and gotten nice colours with a ISO 100 Fujicolor film (Expired) and I had such high hopes for the Chrome 200.  I thought of many reasons but these films are the only ones I have received from overseas. All others film so far, I have received has come from Australia, and so not gone throught the stringent customs x-rays that these had.

Odd colours from Lubitel
See! It can do normal colours

I wonder is there would be another suggestion. I am open to ideas.

All I can say was the detail was captured faithfully, and IF I had been after lomo style photos I would be thrilled but I wanted colour.. :-(  Seriously bummed

I has in a happy bubbly mood this AM only to find this brought me down with a crash. Damn.

Cape Banks (digital photos at this stage)

As I finished work at 6am and had to start again at 1400, I did not have time to go home. SO I went to a favorite haunt, Cape Banks.
Cape Banks
CApe Banks for people who do not know sydney, it in the south east, not far from La Perouse loop and it forms the entrance to Botany Bay.
Cape Banks
I took my analogue bag and Lots of film. Cape Banks is the resting place of the SS Minmi, shipwrecked 8 May 1937. I do love shooting this wreck, but today, the tide came in too quickly for me to get to the wreck so I climbed the hill above it and shot her from above. Sunrise was disappointing this morning, almost colourless. :-( Always the way you have the cameras out and the sun wont play. :-(
For the record I had my Canon 7D for HDR, Cmena 8M (Redbird film)and Cmena 8 (B&W) film, Spinner (Lomo film) Sprocket (Unknown film) Tim135 (Happy film) and Lubitel 166B (which had to begin with Lomo ISO400 film.).
SS Minmi

Some fishermen had climbed up the cliff behind me and so I watched them for a while, shooting the waves crashing against our position. I used up the Lubital roll (Lomo ISO 400)and then a second one (Lomo Chrome 200), changing as quickly as I could in the sea spray. I missed a frame on one roll and the next roll had frame 6 exposed as the back fell open. I was glad for the tape in my bag and I repaired the camera and soldiered on.

The spinner used a roll, and as I had not written down what film was in it, I was surprised that it had an ISO 800 in it. DAMN my photos will be overexposed. I keep better notes now....Spinner re-loaded with Fujicolor Superia ISO 100, and so I will have to use the rest of the roll in bright sun. Hmm WIll need to remember to keep the camera on cloud setting.
Cape Banks
I headed back towards the car, then as a spur of the moment thing headed up to the old cemetery. Called the Coast Cemetery or Prince Henry Hospital Cemetery it was used from 1881 for the small pox outbreak. The infectious decease hospital being located here at Little Bay as it was far enough away from the city to quarantine the sick and dying. Eventually this little hospital house Typhoid, Bubonic plague and leprosy victims. Anyone dying of one of these diseases was interred here no matter where they died. Its a shame that most headstone have not survived, being close to the coast and also as it is so isolated, it gets vandalized. :-( Poeple here may not have even had a headstone. The stones are scattered and there is no order here. No neat rows. I wonder if these people still have any family still living. There was a grave of a 5 year old child. :-(
I didn't dwell here, I need to return on a less sticky day.

Little Bay sand dunesOnwards to the cliffs again. Here at Little Bay, I took out the Sprocket Rocket. I dunno what film is in this camera, but I am determinded to get at least one usable photo out of this camera. TIM135 came out to play as well but after doing a lot of shooting, I realized that I had left him on cloudy, so another over exposed roll. I have not used a whole roll from this camera yet. These 36 exposures seem to just keep going and going. It was here that I sat to update my film notes. I ventured further north towards the golf course but the heat and hunger were gnawing at me.. so I gave up and headed home.

I never did find the access to the gun shelter above me at the Westpac Chopper hanger. Something else to do next time.
Finding my car where I left it.. (WIN!) I got to the entrance to the Golf course, when a sign with a castle distracted me.. I turned left instead of right... and ended up at the La Perouse loop. The most southern point for the Sydney Trams, this was a balloon loop that was always busy. Now just tourists and not many. The castle was the Barracks tower sitting in the centre of the modern day loop.
Took a few shots, Saw the Alexander Spirit in port at Kurnell, but she was too far away for my film friends (Not having the Canon 10QS with me) SO I only took Digital.

Finally I was driven to the airport's fast food outlet, where I got supplies and headed to the lookout near the Tower. Here I shot with film and analogue, and then tried to assist a guy move his ford, which he had managed to stick on a hill in the sand. It was stuck and even with 4 adults, we could not shift her. No one had a strap, so he was stuck and had to wait for the NRMA. By this time, fatigue had caught up and I headed for work.
Sydney Airport

Showered and dressed, I slept for 2 hours before starting my shift. I felt much better for the shower I can tell you. My nose is red, my arms mildly burnt but I shot a bit of film and feel good about the trip. NO matter how many times I go to Cape Banks I always discover new things to shoot and explore.
Medium format

So I FINALLY got my SPinner and Sprocket Rocket Photos..

David took me out to buy a scanner for my Spinner photos. As we were out and about (you can read about the shopping trip on my usual blog) David dropped me at the Chemist that does my films, and the lady was very apologetic as she could not scan the sprockets. She had tried and the other ladies had too but the machine they use for scanning, does not allow the use of rubber bands or such things
SO I dropped off a medium format and Klick 24 exposure film. The lady on was only a casual and explained that she could not do my medium and would have to leave it to the week day ladies as she had never seen one and don't know how to do it. Fair enough. Least she was honest. I arranged to pick up my Klick in an hour and took my spinner negs home.

David managed a huge discount on a canoscan 9000f Scanner and we installed it. I of course scanned the Spinner negs first. A steep learning curve.

Below are the results of my home scanning. I am on the whole very happy. Disappointed with the Sprocket rocket though. I can't get the exposures right.

the adventures on Cmena and a new friend Lubitel 166B

My trip to work on night shift requires me to get a rain that is actually and hour too early and hence I have an hour to kill before entering the place of employment. I took Cmena with me and though maybe we could play together.

I set her up near the NAB on Marrickville RD and fiddled with her legs. To get the angle I wanted, I tugged a little too hard and snapped my wee tripod at the base. GRR. Ok I perched Cmena precariously on the now broken tripod, and pressed the shutter. Some people walked past and giggle at me and my little Cmena. Oh how they scoff and me old lady. :-( She took it well and stayed put. I think she was just too busy to pay the young people much attention. (Her real name is Cmena)
Of course had I been using my canon 7D and a big tripod I am sure the police would have been called. Hmm Modern life suxs in that respect.
I wandered further up the road and we took another shot, this time Cmena leaned on her broken legs.

Marrickville Rd

Campbelltown Station 6amishI eventually returned to my place of employment and asked just as a whim if anyone had super glue. YES I heard from the front.. REALLY?? Who carried super glue in their bags?? (Maybe I should) A colleague lent me some glue and Cmena's legs were all fixed. Maybe for the better.
I started work and CMena snoozed on me desk. The occasional admiring person fondled her and she took this in her stride. She is getting used to the attention.
Home time arrived and I got a lift to Campbelltown

Cmena and I played int he early morning sun, whilst I awaited the train. I am trying to use up her roll but she just keeps finding more film. I was going to drop off her roll whilst I pick up the other rolls but alas this will have to wait until Saturday now. AWW :-( We did double exposures this morning. Even found a sunflower and a purple flower to smell. :-)

Lubitel

My entry to the world of medium format will start this weekend as my Lubitel 166B arrived I ordered him BEFORE Smena and so it took a LONG time to come from the Ukraine. I know when I posted something in St Petersburg, it arrived 6mths AFTER I had arrived back from Russia. I Hope I can manage his film, I need to load it in subdued light and make sure I seal any used film tightly to avoid light leaks.

Excited all over again. Now who comes to work tonight? Cmena who nestles nicely in my work bag or Lub who will need extra attention.. Maybe I can smuggle both with me? Lub has only 160ISO film in him, I did have 800, but I wanted black and white for his first roll.

Maybe he should rest from his journey and we can play on in the city on Monday.. Thoughts?
I hope the tripod repairs work.
