Its been a while between drinks

I have been using my cameras, rarely but when I can. DUe to the inability of my being able to afford commercial processing of any colour film, I dug out my e-6 kits and set about processing some slide film.

 

I finally developed some films from this camera.. the Vermerr 6X18 pinhole camera, I am thrilled with the results.










it takes 4 exposures but two were the same. The other roll from this camera was C-41 so that will have to wait until I can get 4 bottles for C-41 soup.

the Vermeer 4X5 was also a success.. souped in caffenol for 11 minutes



My pinhole clack was less of a success but that was more user failure rather than the camera itself.














I haven't got the f/stop quite right. I was guessing at f/200 but I think its higher.. F/220 or F246, Will try again. The last one was me balancing the camera on the fence post so I moved.

I am enjoying Pinhole as its slow and the panoramic views you get are stunning. I am going to wish for a Zero camera one day but in my new economic situation, it wont happen any time soon.

WHat did arrive and was very exciting was my 35X 50 pinhole camera. Can't wait to develop its film.

I was trying to participate in Take your camera to Work day (Feb 29th) but due to my hours I was only able to take one shot. SO When I had a chance, I took two at my husband's work. :-) I even guestimated the reciprocity failure. :-) Total win.


David took me to Douglas park Weir where I used this Old camera for shooting Velvia. I have yet to soup up my E-6 chemicals.  I took some photos of a barn that caught my eye. I see this barn everytime I drive past.  I took two shots them realised that I have overexposed the shots :-( When I developed the shots, I thought at first at it was all black. DISPAIR!! But when held up to the light the image was there WIN!!
David and I shot a silhouette of a passing Endeavour. I, of course had to use the Graphlex. SO I had 6 minutes to set up. I could of hand held but it was far easier to use the tripod.

Otherwise I have been super quiet with camera. I am essentially penniless so that encourages me to stay good. Sigh. Luckily the weather has been shit. Saturday and Sunday was lovely and blue. Glad we got out.

F-1

Canon F-1 The professional workhorse of the 1970s for canon.

The first F-1 was released in March of 1971 and was updated in 1976 to the f-1n. There are very few obvious clues as to the differences at first glance. The main one is the F-1n has a film reminder holder.
Wikipedia has a list of all the changes.

"In 1976, the camera was revised slightly. This revised version is sometimes called the F-1n (not to be confused with the 1981 New F-1). All told 13 improvements were made. These changes were:

1.Change the standard focusing screen from the A style (microprism only) to E style (split image with microprism ring).
2.Widen the film advance lever offset from 15 degrees to 30 degrees.
3.Decrease the winding stroke from 180 degrees to 139 degrees.
4.Increase the maximum ASA from 2000 to 3200.
5.Added a plastic tip to the advance lever.
6.Changed the mirror to transmit more blue light, thus making the image brighter.
7.Added a detent to the rewind crank to allow it to stay put when pulled out.
8.Added the capability to take a screw-in type PC sync socket.
9.Spring load the battery check position of the power switch.
10.Increase the size of the shutter release cup.
11.Added a soft rubber ring around the eyepiece.
12.Added a film reminder holder to the camera back.
13.Simplify multiple exposure procedure.

I highlighted the easiest means of seeing which is which.

The NEW F-1 was from 1981 and continued to around 1992 although it was in the catalogue until 1994. This camera looks the same as the F-1n and reall very hard to tell the different, the easiest way for me, is to open the back and see the manufacture date.

I managed to get one of each although my F-1n is needing parts like a prism and a base plate. It works fine and I did manage to find a B type prism.

I developed a film

My son shot a film in black and white a little while ago. I wanted to try this recipe from the Internet (You tube) using Caffenol. I had picked up the fixer that I needed and used the last of my cash on a bottle of vitamin C tablets.





SO I had written the instructions out and studied them. I basically had it in my head except the amounts. Which was on my notes. SO I practised putting a film on the reel and found I am conpletely unable to do it in the film changing bag BUT could do it with my eyes closed when not in the bag so I headed for my bedroom and did what I do to un-jam a film in my box cameras. AND I did it first go. SWEET. Put the cannister together and returned to the kitchen to start the brew.



Easy and enjoyable. The washing soda made the coffee smell horrible. :-( But thats a vital part. I found the Vitamin C didn't dissolve so I crushed one. Hmm I need to find vitamin C powder. tablets dont cut it or maybe I need two tablets.. **DAMN!! NOW I remember I needed 1000mg GRR** Need to edit my recipe.

ANYWAY I set up an interval training program to talk to me every minute for 20 minutes and I settled in to the routine. It was quite relaxing sort of like cooking but for once I will not burn the food.. :-)  A small disaster when the chocolate bear I bit into took final revenge, dropping and huge piece into my coffee splashing the Caffenol and getting chocolate and bear in the developer. **Sigh** OK Not midnight snacks when making developer.  **edits recipe**



It was very exciting when I got to the final washing stage and it was with fingers crossed that opened the tank. At first the film looked all blank, but as I unrolled it, imaged appeared. OK Not well developed, I need either more developing time or more Vit C. Still I got images!!!! First go Images!!! :-)

So I count it as a success.



I can't wait to scan them tomorrow.

Super sampler

I can express what a disappointment this camera is. I wanted it and I was thrilled when I got on in a camera mystery bag at christmas.

David has to show me how to work it, and I played with it, but I didn't bond at all. I was not comfortable using it and I revereted to me iPhone to do the same thing. So it sat with hald a film used in it. On my trip part 2, I took it with me to use the rest of the film and maybe sell the damned thing. Its fun if you are 6. Or can shoot children but I am not 6 and I can't shoot random children this modern society frowns upon such things.
So I struggled.

If you are an active person or photographs children or have dogs or cats who are active then this maybe bfor you.

SO imagine me releif when I send in the film.

And my disappointment when the fild came back. It was an ISO 400 film, it was used outsiode excep three shots which I am not counting in my assessment. The Agfa Vista plus film was a good batch, I have used it in the Cmena cameras with success. Sooooo

Why did I get results like this???



Sticky shutter. One shutter, the last one stays open too long. Piece of crap.



Poor qualty and as this is my second defective camera from Lomography.com, I am wondering if my loyalty should lie elsewhere. If I had bought it from the Lomo store here in Sydney then I may have been able to return it but Lomo in HK syas I have to return in within 14days. Hmmm
Mind you if you meed their 14day guideline, they are helpful and happy to pay for a courier to replace the camera with a new one. But couriers are a pain in the arse. You sit here all day and they come at 1600 but if you leave for the post office at 10, they come at 1003hrs.. AARGGHH hate couriers. hate hate hate. I am very lucky in that the PO acts as y business address and the ladies there know me and sign for me. YAY! Benefit of a small town.

I am wondering of the other cameras I have from them are defective and I will be stuck with them. I am sad and crawl back to my 1954-1975 soviet russian built cameras.

Squee New Fed Micron

This camera is a 3rd model (was made from 1968 through 1986) of FED Micron.

The early (1967), 1st model was nearly identical to the Konica EYE half-frame camera of the same period.

While the original model was nearly identical to the Konica Eye, the model III evolved to show a few small differences. For example, while the earlier models had a hinged film door, this version has a removable back.

The camera in this lot was bought in April,1975 (according to receipt).

General and technical characteristics

This is a half frame viewfinder camera with manual override.

Focusing is by distance scale on the lens or symbols in the viewfinder.

Shutter speeds are visible in the viewfinder as is a parallax frame for close-ups.

Camera has shutter priority auto-exposure controlled by a selenium meter around the lens.

The lens is a Helios-89 30mm/f1.9. Shutter speeds of B, 1/30 - 1/800.

Film speeds use the Soviet system (16 - 250).

The built-in selenium meter also sets the shutter speed and the f-stop in a programmed exposure mode.

At 1/30 the f-stop is f1.9; at 1/800 the f-stop is f16.

For flash use, the apertures can be set manually with a 1/30 shutter.

There is also a B setting for the shutter which sets the aperture at f1.9 -- great for night shots.

In low-light conditions a red flag covers up the shutter speeds and prevents exposure -- nice touches.

That was the add a few months ago and to decided to buy it. Alas it took ages to arrive. I only arrived today. Thats almost 2 months.
Still I quite like these little halfframe cameras. I hope the ad it right and the selenium meter does work. The aperture selection is odd and difficult to know what you have selected. The instruction book is in Russian as you would expect but on the whole a nicve piece.


My Chayka is a delight to use to I hope this one lives up to its companion in service.


The Diana mini, the great disappointment, has been exchanged and I have no opened the camera. After using the little but heavy steel construction russian cameras I really don't wanna try the plastic badly made chinese camera. My delight in Lomo is lessened witht he failure of the Supersampler. I have a few old cameras, all made in russia and two from germany and they are all better in quality than the Lomo branded items.



So I have returrn the Diana Mini, Sold I hope the supersampler or I'll give it away, I'll keep the Diana love edition  (Its pretty) and the Old 1960s Diana F sell the Holga and stick to my Beloved Russian Cameras with a few exeptions. I do want a cat camera....

I know I can buy it from Four corners Dark I just hope stock stays until I can afford one.. lol Silly but cute.

OO exciting news

Most exciting news of the day was the cheap chemist will scan my negs to CD for $5.65 each. This is mega cheap. I am not complaining. Alas I did not take the negs to work so will have to drop them off tomorrow. :-( But YAY for the local pace being able to do it. :-) Very exciting. I am basically a pessimist so I bet they will not be able to scan the sprockets. :-( This will bum me out as the sprockets are the point.



A load of film and cameras from a mystery bag from the Lomography store came in a huge box. The cameras were a little disappointing, nothing I needed. Only one was mildly interesting. Shane offered to buy some off me, but would his kids find a use for them? One is a Pin hole camera that take ages to make a photo. Hmm maybe I should play with this one...I dunno. I like my 1940-1970 russian cameras. The funny thing is a russian camera came, a panorama one sealed in a box from russia. I didn't break the seals as I have not use for a panorama camera, Maybe ebay???
